About
A small firm with one idea.
Kalon is the Greek word for a thing that is fitting. The firm exists to put a fitting name with the company it fits. That is the whole idea.
Jocelyn Whitlock
I have spent around eight years in brand strategy and domain portfolios. The part I kept was the simplest: a company that paves roads should be able to have an address that says so.
So that is the work. I look for .com names made of plain words, read up on the companies those words describe, and write to them. Mostly owner-led firms: contractors, growers and packers, freight and storage operators, regional service companies across California and the West.
My notes are short. I say what the name is, why I think it is yours to consider, and ask one question. If I cannot explain the fit in a sentence, I do not send the note.
I answer my own mail. If you write, you get me, usually the same day and always within one working day.
Between the bridge and the dome
The office is on Capitol Mall, the boulevard that runs from Tower Bridge on the river to the State Capitol. It is under a mile long and you can see both ends from the pavement outside.
It is a useful place to do this from. The valley around Sacramento grows and packs a good share of what the country eats, two interstates cross here, and the towns up and down them are full of companies run by the people whose name is on the building. Those are the companies I tend to write to.
How the firm behaves
No auction
Nobody is told a rival is circling, and no buyer is quoted against another. The first to agree the price has the name.
One price
A figure, not a range. It does not rise because you sounded interested.
No is an answer
Say stop and your company is off the list. There is no second attempt through a colleague.
No names named
We do not publish buyers, prices or a list of sales. This site has none, and will not.
